In Human Design, Gate 36 is called the gate of ‘crisis’ and is also known as ‘darkening of the Light’ in iChing. 36 is a heavier energy and is often referred to as the ‘dark night of the soul’. With keynote of compassion, this transit transforms darkness into light when we learn to be self-compassionate amidst struggle. Our very humanness is reflected through 36’s nature.

In my Cosmic Content Codes, I call gate 36, “Human Evolution” which is all about easing suffering for others and finding the tools to evolve in an emotionally healthy way.

Let’s be real, there’s potency in human suffering. It expands us and helps us evolve. When we navigate emotional turbulence with (self) compassion, we’re then able to transform suffering into healing - darkness into Light - and embrace it as a catalyst for evolution rather than making ourselves into a victim.

That’s the wisdom of Gate 36. It invites us to embrace the full spectrum of our humanity, acknowledging both the challenges and the opportunities for growth that come with it. Expanding us beyond our triggers, struggles and suffering.

I have the belief that all healing begins with suffering. And I have experienced this first hand with gate 36 which is present in my Venus Personality side. It massively shaped my emotional landscape while I endured my journey with breast cancer. That whole thing was of course a confronting one and brought up the full gamut of emotions.

But it was only after weeks of finishing my treatment that I realized that I was in this warrior mode, never drawing attention or empathy from others or myself. I was diminishing the very fact that it was an experience of deep suffering for me and it almost threw me off the path of healing. It was only then that I really learned how to be more compassionate for myself and fully acknowledge the experience that I've been through so that I’m liberated and not stuck in it even after becoming illness-free.

The shadow of gene key 36 - turbulence

The shadow of this gene key is emotional turbulence which is an emotional battle that must be fought by every individual at certain points in life. It is rooted in fear of calamaity striking at any time aka uncertainty. This may result in either becoming a control freak or inversely, being controlled by fear and becoming prone to manipulation and propaganda.

At low frequency of 36, there is a tendency to avoid emotional turblence at all costs. To make a shallow effort to remain calm outwardly despite inner turmoil and thus dissociating from self and from others’ pain.

Gift of this gate, Humanity is about how human suffering brings us all together. It opens your eyes beyond your self-obsession and forces you to evolve beyond a state of selfishness. This is where you begin to transform your own suffering and open your heart to life. The person with this gift is one who understands human emotions and consequently understands all people. The deepest role of this gift is to help humans become human.

The shift from shadow to gift happens by understanding that life is not without turbulence. And yet,what determines our frequency is how we deal with emotionally challenging situations.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A GATE 36 BRAND

If you have Gate 36 in your Personality Sun (or Mercury), you are a brand here to help others hold a bigger vision for humanity and cultivate the patience to realise the vision. You are emotionally connected to the feelings of others (especially the big ones) and able to see the patterns needed to heal for growth.

As a gate 36 brand, your story is steeped in the importance of compassion in human life - whether self-compassion or easing suffering for others. You highlight the bigger picture about finding the tools to evolve in an emotionally healthy way. You have the ability to hold space for big feelings and fortitude to know that “this too shall pass”.

However, your emotional side might be sensitive to discord or tension. So, it’s important to practice and model emotional regulation especially in high-stress or emotionally demanding scenarios in business or life.

When it comes to positioning your offers, make sure you own your role in helping/empowering others. Normalise intense feelings and share how to navigate big emotions. Create and promote safe spaces and welcome your audience to relate their struggles and feelings.
